Postdoctoral Scientist in Geochemistry / Palaeobotany

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Scientist for research on the experimental fossilization of wood, at the Steinmann Institute of Geology, Mineralogy, and Paleontology at the University of Bonn in Germany. We are seeking a young, highly motivated, and independent researcher with documented research experience as reflected in publications in international journals in lowtemperature geochemistry or paleobotany. He or she should hold a recent Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or in a closely related field, and be interested in experimental and analytical methods in geochemistry, fossil wood anatomy, facies analysis, and/or plant taphonomy. Willingness to explore new fields is highly desirable.

The position is available for a period of 2 years but can be renewed for an additional year. Salary will be according to the TV-L E13 level and will depend on age, marital status, and experience. Willingness to participate in research activities at the Institute, as well as collaboration with the geoscientists at the neighboring University of Cologne, is strongly encouraged.

Active research fields at the Steinmann Institute relevant for the position include low and high-temperature experimental petrology, analytical geochemistry, isotope geochemistry, and Mesozoic and Tertiary paleobotany. Existing facilities include EPMA, a one-atm and high pressure experimental laboratory, XRD and XRF, electron microscopy, state-of-the-art laser-ablation-ICP mass spectrometry, Laser-Raman spectroscopy, SEM, confocal SEM, and micro-CT scanner. The Steinmann Institute shares clean lab facilities and a Neptune MC-ICPMS for trace element and isotope analysis with the Geoscience Institute at the University of Cologne.

The Institute seeks to increase the proportion of female scientists and therefore urges interested female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualification, preference will be given to disabled applicants.

Deadline for application: until position is filled.

Your application should include a CV, a list of publications, a description of your past and future research interests, and the names and contact details of three potential referees. This application should be directed as pdf to both Prof. Chris Ballhaus ([Email protection active, please enable JavaScript.]) and Dr. Carole Gee ([Email protection active, please enable JavaScript.]) who should also be contacted for further information.
